Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon & balance of Merlot

Established in 2011, TATE is known for single expression wines from independently owned, micro-vineyards across the valley floor and mountain sides of the Napa Valley. Founded by husband and wife team David & Suzanne Tate; they have grown to producing just over 1,000 cases annually of Chardonnay from Yountville, Merlot from Calistoga and single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon's from St. Helena, Mt. Veeder and Howell Mountain.

On the rugged mountain terrain of the Mt Veeder appellation lies this single vineyard at 1400 ft. Despite its sunny exposition, this is the coolest of the Napa mountain appellations, meaning slower growth producing dynamic flavors and deeper tannins. The Spring Street Cabernet Sauvignon is loaded with lifted dark cherry and pomegranate aromatics that jump from the glass as well as hints of cedar, cocoa, black tea and pencil shavings. The wine is viscous and with lush tannins from the Merlot addition. The palate has black plum, cinnamon, pomegranate and more black cherry. The acidity is firm but balanced. This well-rounded wine is showing well in its youth but will age wonderfully over the next 7-8 years.
