Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir
From the legendary Domaine Dujac, and their parcels of vines from the legendary Echezeaux appellation, this is the pinnacle of Burgundy. Not long after purchasing vineyards in the late 1960s and releasing his first wines in the early 1970s Jacques Seysses became an international icon. Jacques respect for the terroir of the CĂŽte dâOr is still on display in his viticultural practices and innovative winemaking methods. Dujac wines are more than just varietally correct â they are intimate travelogues of some of the most celebrated sites on earth. Sons Jeremy and Alec along with Jeremyâs wife, Diana, have been handed the reigns of this famous estate.
Wine Advocate: "Dujac's 2022 Echezeaux Grand Cru is broad and supple, bursting with aromas of smoky plums, wild berries, peonies, orange zest and spices. Full-bodied, unctuous and enveloping, its textural attack segues into a fleshy but succulent core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins. Harvest at Domaine Dujac began on August 29. At the time, Jeremy Seysses thought of the vintage as potentially reminiscent of 2018âtasting the wines this winter, he feels that they're more delicate, while also admitting that he was even more cautious about extraction in 2022. Whatever the apposite analogy, the result is clear: a superb portfolio of beautifully balanced wines that unite charm and density. Readers, of course, will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation with a predominance of whole clusters and Ă©levage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie RĂ©mond. None of that seems to have changed in 2022, despite a new winery where stainless steel vats have replaced concrete. The wines retain, nay exalt in, their distinctive identity".
